Denman & Associates began educating itself on healthy-housing issues 15 years ago with a small house outside of town for a client with severe immune system sensitivity.

We have often worked with Paula Baker, the architect who, in her two published books, pioneered much of the study relating health to building materials & architecture.

We have designed and built a highly restrictive health-conscious house with Bennett Strahan, our in-house architect at the time. The owners of this house specified a clean room be utilized for workers entering and leaving the project in the final four months of the process.

Using eco-friendly products has led to building with many of the newer energy-conscious materials such as rastra, E-crete, straw bale, and ICF’s or insulated concrete forms. One such project, perhaps our smallest ever, involved building a prototype one room, strawbale home for an elderly Navajo woman on the reservation. It was built by Denman & Associates, another contractor, and many volunteers and was completed in one month.

In the last few years as environmental consciousness regarding building products has increased, Denman & Associates has incorporated many practices and products within their normal building regime. We continue to build for many clients with severe health issues but have also found that most of our new clients have a good understanding of these issues and a sincere desire to incorporate them in the construction of their homes anyway.
